Unit 3: Interaction function
Interaction function in plants. Nastic movements.
Nastic movements are plant responses which consist of rapid movements of some parts. They are usually reversible.
Photonasty and thigmonasty are examples of nastic movements.
Photonasty is the response of the plant to light.
Thigmonasty is the response of the plant to contact:
Here you are some amazing examples of thigmonasty:
Unit 6: A description of the Earth:
Amongst the most fascinating changes of the Earth we find the water cycle, an example of how everything in nature (and in the Universe) is closely connected:
The water cycle is due to gravity and solar energy. Other changes of the Earth, such as rock formation, are due to geothermal energy (The Earth's internal heat). The rock cycle is pivotal to understand the rock formation process as well as the three different types of rocks:
1. Sedimentary rocks.
2. Magmatic rocks. Plutonic and volcanic.
3. Metamorphic rocks.
To understand the above mentioned, listen to these raps. Remember that in the USA our Plutonic rocks are called "Intrusive" and our Volcanic rocks are called "extrusive". Either Plutonic and Volcanic belong to the Magmatic rock type but in the USA instead of Magmatic they called this type of rock "Igneous". It makes sense too: "ignis" means "fire" in latin.
